Regular cleaning is essential for long-term enjoyment of WPC decking boards. This not only gives you a more beautiful appearance, but also prevents the formation of mildew.

WPC (Wood-Plastic Compound) is a practical and stable covering for the terrace. It is a composite material made of wood and plastic. The floor covering offers a natural appearance, high weather resistance and thus a long service life.

What a lot of people don’t know: However, leaves and other garden waste combined with long lasting moisture provide an excellent place to mould. Regular cleaning and maintenance is absolutely necessary to ensure that this does not happen and that you enjoy your decking for a long time.

Cleaning WPC decking boards – That’s what you need:

For normal soiling during the summer, water, detergent or WPC cleaner (such as this one) and a scrubbing brush are sufficient.

At the end of the outdoor season a thorough cleaning is required. Then you should impregnate the decking boards additionally (My recommendation: Greenwood Protection Impregnation colourless). Have all materials and tools ready.

Here again all at a glance:

  • Brush, scrubbing brush

  • floor wiper

  • rag

  • bucket

  • WPC cleaner

  • WPC impregnator

  • Brush or paintbrush

  • paint tray

The prelude: Thorough cleaning of WPC planks

For wiping and cleaning with light soiling, use the WPC Cleaner in a weak concentration. During the annual basic cleaning, dose the cleaner more strongly, paying attention to the manufacturer’s instructions.

200 ml concentrate on a bucket of warm water is recommended. Apply the cleaning solution to the boards with a floor wiper or cloth and allow the agent to act briefly. Use a brush or scrubbing brush to rework and remove even stubborn dirt. In the case of heavy stains, you can increase the concentration, the product does not damage the floorboards.

Take up the loosened dirt with the floor wiper and spray the terrace with the garden hose if possible. ” Attention: Do not use a high-pressure cleaner, the water pressure is not tolerated by most WPC planks.

After cleaning, allow the planks to dry thoroughly, then impregnate them.

    Impregnation provides lasting protection

Pour the WPC impregnation into a paint tray and apply the solution evenly. You can use a brush or a paint roller for this. For boards with grooves, a brush is better, so you can get into all the depressions. Only use as much impregnation as the boards can easily absorb. If you are unsure, test first on a less visible spot. You will notice that you have used too much impregnation if liquid remains on the planks. Dry weather is important for impregnation to work well.

Allow the impregnation to work for 20 minutes and then take up excess liquid with the cloth. Now just let everything dry; after two hours you can enter the terrace again. The impregnated WPC planks are completely dry and resilient after one to two days.
