Swiss Cheese Plant (Monstera deliciosa)
The Swiss Cheese Plant (Monstera deliciosa) is a plant widely used for interior decoration. Its large leaves of up to 45cm in length are a very beautiful green color, and as it has a non-invasive root system, it can be grown in a pot for its entire life without having to worry about anything.

The Swiss Cheese plant, scientifically known as Monstera deliciosa , has an easy cultivation , which means that it does not matter what experience you have in caring for plants: she will always surprise you ????. Of course, to have it in good condition and get more sheets each year, I recommend you provide this care:
- Watering: occasional. You have to water between once and twice a week, except in winter.
- Substrate: it is not very demanding in this sense, but if you have or can get compost, it will grow marvelously. If not, mix black peat with 10% earthworm humus, and another 10% perlite (or any other similar material).
- Fertilizer: from spring until the end of autumn, fertilize it with a liquid fertilizer every 20 days. It can be specific for green plants, or if you prefer something more natural, fertilize with guano.
- Transplant: it is one of the few plants that grow well in small pots; however, whenever you see that it is “tight”, or when roots come out of the drainage holes, it is convenient to change it from a pot.
- Location: since it does not withstand the cold temperatures, it must be placed inside the home, in the room that you like the most, since it grows well both in areas with little light and those that are very bright.
On the other hand, we also have to talk about the plagues and diseases that you may have. As for the former, cochineals , mites and thrips are the parasites that most often affect them, but can be easily treated with systemic insecticides containing chlorpyrifos or dimethoate, or with natural insecticides .
And if we talk about diseases, the fungus Phytophthora and bacteria like Pseudomonas or Erwinia can harm our Swiss Cheese Plant (Monstera deliciosa). To combat them, you have to do treatments with broad spectrum fungicides for the fungi, and cut and eliminate the affected parts if what you have are bacteria. Unfortunately, there are no really effective bactericides that can fight them.
