Best Recommended Products For Orchids

In this page we will expose the different instruments, materials and phytosanitary products that we will need to protect, maintain and stimulate the health and flowering in our orchids.
We will start with a list of basic products to continue with fertilizers, phytosanitary (insecticides and fungicides) and other utensils or tools that will help us in their care.

1- Basic products:

Ethyl alcohol. It will help us to disinfect leaves and other parts of the plant. Applied with cotton soaked on the leaves (especially on the underside) will eliminate insects, mites, etc. It is also useful to fight bacterial attacks.
Neutral soap. We can use a container with soft water and a little neutral soap (preferably vegetable type like coconut) to clean with a cotton cloth, the leaves when they present dust or other elements that can reduce the correct breathing of the leaves. Also to clean roots during the transplant if they have presented infections.
Bleach. The lye can be very useful as a disinfectant in utensils, containers or surfaces where diseased plants have been. It is also used, sometimes, to disinfect the roots of an infected plant, before changing the substrate and / or pot. Obviously we must do so by diluting it in water in the proper proportion so as not to burn the root and briefly submerging the roots to be treated in it.
Cinnamon powder. It is an excellent natural remedy against insects, fungi and bacteria. As it is a natural product, we can apply it without any type of risk.
Latex gloves. Essential to protect us from phytosanitary products and to procure a sterile medium when we manipulate plants.
Manual vaporizer. The manual vaporizer is an essential element for the care of orchids at home. We recommend those who have a manual pressure pump that charges the container with air before using it.With it we can provide extra moisture in the environment, moisturize aerial roots and also use it to apply foliar or phytosanitary fertilizers.
Brush. It will serve to clean the dust on the leaves and apply cinnamon powder in areas affected by parasites.
Forget. Essential for the monitoring of our plant. With it we can detect the presence of insects (mites or others) on the leaves and stems of the plant in advance and before the plague proliferates.

The fertilizers (irrigation, foliar) and biostimulators.

Specific fertilizer for orchids. Dissolved in irrigation water, it provides all the nutrients necessary for proper growth and flowering.
Energy Tablet. Subscription in tablets. Effervescent tablets to provide the necessary nutrients easily for all types of orchids. It is the most practical, comfortable and simple way to pay.
Foliar fertilizer. The foliar fertilizers are applied by spraying on the leaves (avoiding the flowers). These absorb the active ingredients and contribute to the health of the plant.
Bioestimulants Algimar Gel. Excellent fertilizer that can be used in irrigation and as foliar fertilizer. Contains seaweed extract from fresh Ascophyllum nodosum algae.
Vitivid orchid bioactivator. The Vitavid Orquídeas is a powerful biostimulator to help the plant to overcome situations of abiotic stress, acting as an enzymatic activator of metabolic processes: it improves the growth of the plant and the absorption of nutrients.

3- Phytosanitary products: Insecticides, Fungicides.

Extracto natural de Neem. Natural insecticide. Ideal in treatment and prevention of pests and insects. Natural product obtained from the seeds of the Azadirachta indica tree, known as the Neem tree. It acts by contact on the insects in which it regulates the molting processes in the larvae, breaking its life cycle. It also causes repellency effects and inhibition of insect feeding.
Specific insecticide for orchids. Insecticide. Controls pests of insects, mites, cochineal, etc.
Neudo – Vital LPU. Natural fungicide for the treatment of fungi. Fungicide. It prevents the appearance of powdery mildew, rust, brotitis, anthracnose and others.Strengthens the plant preventing fungal diseases in roses, ornamentals and horticultural. It has no harmful effect on the health of people and animals.

Tools And Other Materials

Pruning shears. We will need it to cut the flower sticks once the cycle is finished. Also if we cleanse dried roots.Remember to disinfect them before use with alcohol or a solution of water with bleach.
Cutter. This instrument will be very useful to make clean cuts in parts of the plant that we want to eliminate, for example, infected or dead leaves.Remember to disinfect them before use with alcohol or a solution of water with bleach.
Scissors. Having small scissors used for the care of bonsais or others can be useful for small cuts in leaves, stems or flowers.
Guides for the floral rods. These are guides (usually made of wood or plastic) that support the floral stem during its growth. By means of small clamps or fine wire we can fix them to the guide.
Clay balls The clay balls are very useful placed at the bottom of the containers that contain the pot with the orchid. With them we can maintain a certain level of humidity at the base of the plant but without the roots touching the water directly.
Substrate for orchids. To transplant orchids we must have prepared with base of pine bark and other elements that we will find in any specific substrate for orchids.
Strainer. With this container we can clean the substrate or the balls of clay before using them in our plants. Normally the material is placed inside and they are placed under a tap of running water that will drag impurities or dust.
Containers for transplantation. There are different containers or pots to transplant orchids.   The phalaenopsis will need preferably transparent containers.

Technology For Our Orchids

Weather Station. To a large extent, the well-being of our plant will depend on the control of the temperature and humidity. Basically we need to measure the maximum and minimum temperatures (with it we can know if we have the necessary differences of temperature to stimulate the flowering, among others) and the humidity of the environment.
Electronic humidifier This device can provide a predetermined degree of humidity in very dry indoor environments. We can also program it at certain daily times to ensure a minimum of humidity.
Artificial light for plants. Sunlight is one of the fundamental elements for the growth and health of our plants. Although orchids do not tolerate direct sunlight, they need a lot of light.Current technology has different options to provide a light similar to solar and compensate for the lack of natural light in some environments. Check with your provider.
