![]() Trellises come in handy sometimes, whether it’s to grow flowering vines, peas, beans, climbing roses, or to train a topiary. Most trellises are made from wire, vinyl, wood, or another natural material. An eco-friendly trellis of course, is one that is made from a sustainable material such as bamboo or willow like the one pictured above. The definition of a trellis is a structure of open latticework (ornamental designs using strips of wood) used to support vines. The latticework is either vertical or horizontal to form square patterns, or in a criss-cross pattern. Typically trellises are flat but archways can also be comprised of a trellis. Trellises comes in several different styles. There’s the teepee trellis in willow like the one shown above or something similar in bamboo. Another popular style is the ladder trellis, the trellis fence, and Small Expandable Bamboo Trellis While the terms trellis, pergola and arbor are often used interchangeably, they are actually different. Arbors and pergolas are more of a garden feature than a trellis, the latter being more of a structure strictly for growing plants. By definition an arbor is a shaded resting place under an arched trellis. A pergola is a passageway or shaded walk under a structure that is more architectural in nature than a trellis. |
