More larger than life flower hybrids for the garden. If you missed Enormous Flowers (Part 1), click here. 1.Gerbera Pink Spinner Another flower that’s as big as a salad plate, this new hybrid of Gerber Daisy (flower pictured above) is 8 inches in diameter and blooms on 2-foot high stems. 2. Clematis Franziska Marie This double bloom clematis vine is a lovely shade of bluish-purple. The flowers, which are 4 to 5 inches across, bloom from early summer to fall. Full sun. Zones 4 to 9. 3. Hemerocallis 'Eleonore' If you like daylilies, then ‘Eleanore’ is for you! The 6-inch flowers are pale lavender and fade to a creamy white color as the day progresses--they’re in bloom for 16 hours. Full sun. Zones 3 to 9. 4. Paeonia 'Sequestered Sunshine' Peonies are generally a large flower to begin with, but these peonies are slightly larger. As you might guess from the name, they are a pleasing yellow in color. Part shade to full sun. Zones 3 to 8. 5. Moonflower Moonflower is a vine that is grown from seed or rooting runners, unlike the other flowers mentioned here. The fragrant white, 7-inch diameter flowers bloom at dusk--perfect for your moon garden (read more about moon and evening gardens. Moonflower vine grows very rapidly and under the right conditions may naturalize and become invasive. Zones 9 to 11. An annual vine elsewhere. |
