|Wednesday What’s New: Desert Ice Garden|
|Written by Heleigh Bostwick Wednesday, 05 January 2011|
We’re in the middle of the January thaw in northern New England, but it’s snowing again and winter is just getting started. And, as I’m often reminded, Daily Dirt readers are scattered around the globe so it’s fun to see what’s going on in gardens elsewhere—like Chihuahua, Mexico for instance.
”Seeing your Winter Gardens article made me think of a picture I took in my garden recently. I live in the great Chihuahua desert in Mexico. Days are warm (low 70's this time of year) but nights get down close to freezing,” the reader writes.
”My garden hose was lying on the grass and leaking a fine spray and in the morning was this mini-ice garden. If you look closely you can see the blades of grass that got coated by the freezing mist. By noon it had all melted and watered the grass! It never ceases to amaze me the beauty that nature creates!”
