 Green roof gardens or living roofs are one way that municipalities and some homeowners are going green, but what about us regular folks? Are living roofs an option for the masses? They sure are, but one of the key factors in building a living roof on your garden shed, wood storage area, garage, your home, or even your doghouse is to use the proper soil--soil that’s not too heavy but still provides the structural capabilities that plants need. That’s where GaiaSoil™ comes in. As you know from digging in the garden, soil is heavy, so it’s not a good option for a roof. GaiaSoil™ is specially formulated for roof gardens in that it is lightweight (almost 50% lighter than any other green roof growing medium) and it retains 200% of its weight in water. The soil itself is made from non-toxic recycled expanded polystyrene foam coated with an organic pectin and high-quality compost.
