Looking for a weekend DIY project? Need a quick and easy stone edging or a new garden path? An alternative to Astroturf (just kidding!)? Try a stone carpet. Made by geotextile giant Tenax Corporation, stone carpets are sold in 20 inch wide, 4 foot long rolls and come in four colors; light grey, dark grey (pictured above), pink (pinkish-beige), and sand brown.
I canít vouch for these personally and am not entirely sure how theyíre constructed--as in how the stones are attached to the mesh backing or what size the stones are, but I can see how they might be useful for driveways, edging, paths, and even patios. For starters, using a stone carpet would prevent loose stones from making their way onto the lawn. You can also cut the carpets to the desired size. For example, letís say you want an 8-inch wide stone edging along your brick path, simply cut to the width you want.
Installation is not too bad either. In fact, itís downright easy. Just lay the stone carpet on the ground, just remember to account for the depth of the stones in the carpet. The price is considerably less than hiring a landscape contractor as well at $49 per box.
