Reel Mower

The only lawn mower I’ve ever owned has been my trusty push mower aka a reel mower. Here are five good reasons to use one.

1. They’re Quiet
We have enough noise in the world. Besides, how irritating is it to be woken up on Saturday morning by your gas-powered lawn mowing neighbor?

2. Environmentally Friendly
Yes, ‘tis true, no electricity and no fossil fuels are consumed while using a reel mower, but honestly this isn’t even my first reason to use a reel mower.

3. Exercise
Most people who own reel mowers don’t have enormous lawns, but if you do, think of all the calories you would burn (up to 400 calories per hour!) mowing a couple of acres with a reel mower.

4. Ease to Use, Safe, Inexpensive, and Low Maintenance
Lightweight, easy to push, no engine to fuss around with, there’s no special technique to getting them started, and reel mowers cost less, need I say more?

5. Better for the Grass
Why? Because they are more like a pair of scissors when it comes to cutting your grass. They actually cut the grass (i.e. there’s a clean cut) as opposed to rotary blade mowers that rip and tear the blades of grass.
