Solar birdbath spa

Yes, you guessed right. A solar bird spa is a fancy name for a birdbath that has a circulating water system that is powered by the sun. Nonetheless it is kind of a neat functional ornament for the garden and may be useful for the bird watchers among us.

In case you’re wondering, the bird spa has built-in solar panels. It’s the solar panels that convert the energy of the sun into the power source that the pump uses to circulate the water for a bird spa like the one pictured above (photo source: www.backyardbird.com). The theory behind this is that moving water discourages mosquitoes from laying eggs in the still water of a birdbath. It’s also nice to hear trickling water.

The Solar Bird Spa has a built-in feeder as well as planter, but seems a bit messy to me. In addition, it’s made from resin, which is not a particularly eco-friendly material. On the other hand, if it encourages wildlife in the garden maybe that is enough to offset this. This copper birdbath fountain is quite nice but if you want something a bit more low tech, then check out the pint sized solar sipper below.

Of course, if you don’t fancy the solar powered bird spa at all, then how about this solar powered bird feeder ? Although honestly, I’m not sure why birds need a solar powered bird feeder, are you?
