|Tuesday Products: The Waspinator|

Yes, Waspinator is the name of a Transformer toy, but itís also the name of a nifty gadget that keeps wasps away. If your home or property is plagued by wasps, hornets, and yellow jackets, especially in autumn like mine is, then you might want to check it out. The waspinator (whose name Iím sure is purposefully similar to ďThe TerminatorĒ) acts as a decoy to keep these critters away. Itís non-toxic (no bug spray needed!) and is even made from 100% recycled polyester.
A waspinator works because wasps and the like are both territorial creatures and visually oriented. When you hang the bag from the ceiling or a tree branch if youíre on a picnic, the wasps perceive it as an enemy nest and fly off. What looks like a gray semi-deflated wrinkly bag to us, looks like trouble to them. Many wasp traps lure the insects with bait and then trap them in glass bottles like the Glass Wasp Trap or other containers (Fatal Funnels anyone?), in essence attracting them to your location instead of repelling them.
Waspinator bags are sold individually or in sets of three. They are collapsible, pack up flat, and portable. From the testimonials Iíve read, the waspinator really works.
