Coco fiber tree mat

Mulching around a newly planted tree is a good thing, but eventually you might become a bit, well, lazy about it. That’s when an eco-friendly mulch tree mat or tree ring comes in handy. What’s an eco-friendly mulch tree mat? I’ll get to that in a minute, but first, a few tips about mulching around trees and why it’s beneficial to trees and other plants.

Mulching around a tree or any plant materials for that matter helps keep the soil moist, prevents weeds from cropping up, and as it decays, adds organic matter to the soil. These are great benefits especially for newly planted trees, shrubs, and perennials. Once a tree is established you can go with a tree mulch mat.

One eco-friendly option to traditional bark mulch is the coco fiber tree mulch mat pictured above. Made from woven coconut fibers and natural latex, a coco fiber tree ring is permeable and last for several years. Another option is to go with one made from recycled rubber which is even more maintenance free than coco fiber. Despite what you might think, the recycled rubber mulch mat does allow air and water to reach the tree roots while suppressing weeds. Tree mulch mat rings are sold in several sizes, typically 20, 24, 36, 48, and 60-inch diameters and can be custom cut to accommodate the size of the tree trunk.
